SPE Offshore Europe 2027 opens call for papers to shape Europe’s energy future
The offshore energy sector is navigating one of the most significant periods of transformation in its history. As technologies evolve, markets shift, and investment decisions become increasingly complex, the need to share knowledge, lessons learned and practical experience has never been greater.
That is the thinking behind SPE Offshore Europe 2027 (OE27), which has officially announced its conference theme “(Em)Powering Europe: Securing Our Energy Future” and opened its call for papers ahead of the event's return to P&J Live in Aberdeen from 7-9 September 2027.
A Platform for Industry Insight and Innovation
For decades, Offshore Europe has served as a meeting place for the offshore energy community, bringing together engineers, operators, technology providers, policymakers and innovators to exchange ideas and tackle shared challenges. As the energy landscape continues to evolve, that role has become even more important.
The OE27 conference programme will explore its central theme through three key pillars:
- Delivering responsibly
- Driving prosperity
- Strengthening capability and innovation
Across three days of plenary sessions, panel discussions and fireside chats, industry leaders will examine how the sector can continue to deliver secure, affordable and sustainable energy while embracing new opportunities across the wider energy mix.
Call for Papers Now Open
The call for paper proposals is now open, with submissions being accepted until 1 February 2027. Successful contributions will help shape more than 30 technical and e-poster sessions, providing a platform for experts to share knowledge, showcase innovation and contribute to industry-wide progress.
The programme committee is seeking papers that highlight:
- Innovative technologies and solutions
- Real-world case studies and lessons learned
- Operational excellence and performance improvements
- Decarbonisation initiatives
- Digital transformation projects
- Strategies for workforce development
- Approaches to maximising value from existing assets
Contributions that address these challenges and opportunities will help inform the conversations shaping the future of offshore energy.
Bringing the Whole Energy Ecosystem Together
Beyond the conference programme, the exhibition floor will showcase dedicated feature areas including the Energy Theatre, Offshore Wind Hub, North Sea Futures Zone and Future Talent Hub. The North Sea Futures Zone will include a focus on carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS), decommissioning, digital technologies and hydrogen, reflecting the breadth of solutions required to support the energy transition.
Collaboration at the Heart of Energy Security
According to conference co-chair David Latin, Chair of Serica Energy, the OE27 theme reflects the industry's long-standing ability to solve complex challenges through innovation and collaboration. He emphasised that both new North Sea oil and gas production and renewable energy developments have a role to play in strengthening Europe's energy security.
Fellow conference co-chair Yaniv Friedman, Executive Chairman of Ithaca Energy, highlighted the importance of maintaining domestic energy production while continuing to innovate and collaborate in support of the UK's energy needs.
Sharing Knowledge Across the Industry
The technical programme will place particular emphasis on practical learning and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing. Technical Programme Co-Chairs Edna Michelle Bisso Bi Mba and Irene Brekne Hamre have encouraged professionals from across the energy sector to submit papers that bring fresh perspectives, challenge conventional thinking and demonstrate how innovation can strengthen Europe's energy future.
For the first time, the programme will also include a dedicated Talent Development and Diversity stream, creating new opportunities to explore workforce development and the skills needed for the future energy landscape.
