According to the World Economic Forum, there is a more than $1 trillion opportunity at stake for the digitalization of the Oil and Gas industry.

While the digital transformation of industries is not a new concept, the Oil and Gas industry has been slow to adopt and prone to opting for proof of concept or small-scale digital deployments.

At a time when Oil and Gas industry face challenges around supply, disruption, and a changing workforce, operators are tasked with keeping production costs low and focusing on maintenance and asset health. Digital technology is the necessary step our industry must take to lower production cost, maximize recovery, reduce non-productive time, predict maintenance and improve operational efficiency.

From the application of analytics for predictive maintenance to leveraging virtual reality in the design stage or for training purposes, automation in managing operations & manufacturing - digital transformation is emerging as a driver of sweeping change while providing the Oil & Gas industry with unparalleled opportunities for value creation and capture.

While digitalization could be a source of positive change, there are however a number of challenges (data privacy and security, cultural transformation and skill shortages) that need to be overcome to realize its full potential for both business and society.
