Keynote Programme Session: Underwater Innovation (Next Gen)


The underwater industry is in the process of undergoing a dramatic change which will transform the systems which are deployed across the sector. In oil and gas there is a concomitant drive towards standardisation, industrialisation and vendor lead solutions to reduce development cost, and the ambition of longer tiebacks through use of the new subsea power, pumping and processing technologies.

The advance of robotics and autonomy is rapid and cross sectoral, not only in oil and gas but in all the underwater industries, with the promise of a radical shift in the way we interact with our systems, both decreasing the cost and increasing the performance in the installation, and inspection activities.

Overlaying all of this is a digital transformation with imaging, positioning and measurement delivering data of hitherto unimaginable quantity and quality enabling remote interaction and, with the advances noted in robotics, true autonomy.  Integrated with an Underwater Internet of Things; improved sensing, better quality knowledge and incorporating AI the underwater system of the future will be a radical departure from those we have today.

This session will explore these themes, the impact they will have on the underwater industry and how we prepare and position ourselves to take maximum benefit.
