Transformative technologies

Keynote Programme Session: Transformative technologies to lower carbon footprint (decarbonisation, CCS)

Synopsis

The UN has set 17 Sustainable Development Goals for all countries, rich or poor, to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. The goals address economic growth and social needs whilst tackling climate change and protecting the environment.

Goal 7 is ‘Affordable & Clean Energy’ and Goal 13 is ‘Climate Action’.  The Oil & Gas industry is perhaps uniquely challenged with transforming its business model to contribute materially to both of those goals – lowering society’s carbon footprint whilst providing cheap sustainable energy. Even in the IEA’s Sustainable Development Scenario Projection whilst crude oil production decreases, natural gas production and demand continues to rise and demonstrates the importance of our industry to the energy transition and delivering the UN’s SDGs.

Innovation, technology and commitment will be key to the industries success and our own sustainability and relevance in the eyes of the world. This session will explain the context within which the industry must deliver, whilst also investigating some of the key technologies companies are developing and adopting to lower their carbon footprint. We will also demonstrate the economic benefit of some of these measures and how they can be applied by almost any operator regardless of size.
