Message from the Chairman

Samir Brikho       On behalf of the executive committee, it gives me great pleasure to invite you to submit your paper proposals for the Offshore Europe Conference & Exhibition 2011.

The 21st Century continues to provide challenges of enormous scale for the upstream oil and gas sector.  The recent events in the Gulf of Mexico provide a reminder of the importance of health, safety, security and environmental issues in addressing the significant and unique challenges of operations in ever increasing water depths.

Allied to this are the present technical and logistical pressures, as well as the new science and knowledge required, to overcome these in both the near and longer term future.

Of course running through all our activities, onshore and offshore, are Human Factor issues that must be taken into account, in terms of facility design, staffing and operations.

If the industry is to provide a safe, smart and sustainable supply, as well as succeed in exploring and developing new territories and frontiers, it must challenge convention and discuss these issues.  Our industry has a wonderful history of technological development, please let us utilise this opportunity to secure the future of the industry – I strongly urge you to submit papers for Offshore Europe 2011.

Offshore Europe is the largest upstream oil and gas event outside North America, held every two years in Europe’s energy capital of Aberdeen. Offshore Europe 2011 is set to build upon the success of previous events, in particular 2009 which achieved a record attendance figure of 45,565 industry attendees and featured 1,421 exhibiting companies.

Alongside the extensive technical programme there will be the ever popular Topical Lunches and Business Breakfasts.  This means that Offshore Europe 2011 will provide more opportunities for delegates from all levels and roles in the global upstream sector than ever before.

Offshore Europe 2011 is the industry’s opportunity to learn, debate and challenge the ideas needed if the industry is to establish a safe, smart and sustainable supply for the future.

I look forward to seeing you in Aberdeen in September 2011.
