+++ SPE Offshore Europe unveils 2011 Chairman +++
The Offshore Europe Partnership is delighted to announce that Samir Brikho, Chief Executive of AMEC plc, has accepted the role of Chairman for SPE Offshore Europe 2011.
SPE Offshore Europe is the largest upstream oil and gas event outside North America, and is held every 2 years in Europe’s energy capital of Aberdeen. The last conference and exhibition in 2009 achieved unprecedented success, with record-breaking attendance figures and the largest ever exhibition area, with 1,421 participating companies from around the world.
The main theme for next year’s conference is ‘Securing Safe, Smart, Sustainable Supply’. Mr Brikho commented: “Despite its challenges, offshore exploration and production in Europe is an essential part of the energy portfolio and will continue to be developed as part of the energy mix. However, it is clear that to have a sustainable long-term industry we need to have in place effective environmental safeguards and safety regimes, the most appropriate technology and well-trained and motivated people working together within a supportive financial and regulatory framework. This year’s theme addresses the challenges we face in the coming years and I am honoured to chair SPE Offshore Europe 2011.”
Mr Brikho, 52, was appointed Chief Executive of AMEC plc in October 2006 and has transformed the company into a leading supplier of high-value consultancy, engineering and project management services to the world’s natural resources, nuclear, clean energy, water and environmental sectors. From May 2008 to May 2010 Mr Brikho served as Chairman of the UK Energy Excellence Board, launched by UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the UK Government’s international business development organisation. He was also appointed UK business ambassador in February 2010. Prior to joining AMEC he was a member of the Group Executive Committee of ABB Ltd., Switzerland and Chairman of ABB Lummus Global.
Details on the conference sub-themes, plenary, panel and technical sessions will be revealed later this year, with an official Call for Papers outlining all categories to be announced shortly. Supporting the 2011 conference content will be a programme of Topical Lunches and Breakfast Briefings.
Global importance of OE attracts widely respected figures

SPE Offshore Europe 2011 will be held from 6-8th September in Aberdeen and will draw many thousands of delegates to the conference and exhibition from around the world, reflecting the event’s global reach.
SPE Offshore Europe’s biennial conference and exhibition is organised by The Offshore Europe Partnership, a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions Ltd. and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
