+++ OE 2009 ORGANISER'S PRESS RELEASE - SPE Offshore Europe 2009 breaks all records +++
This year’s SPE Offshore Europe is on course to be the largest in the event’s 30-year history despite the current difficult economic situation being experienced worldwide, with one third of all the show’s confirmed exhibitors coming from overseas.
Organisers The Offshore Europe Partnership say they have so far sold 21,775 square metres of exhibition space, which is 1,500sq metres more than for the 2007 event, which was itself a record breaker. Current estimates indicate the show will likely increase in size by some 10% compared to the last SPE Offshore Europe by the time the show gets underway. Equally importantly, there are 230 companies representing approximately 5,000sq metres – one quarter of the show – that are totally new participants at the Aberdeen event.
SPE Offshore Europe is the largest upstream oil and gas event outside North America, and is held every two years in Europe’s energy capital. The next event at the AECC venue will take place from 8-11th September.
Elaine Hulse, SPE Offshore Europe’s Exhibition Manager, highlighted the global profile and relevance of the conference and exhibition, with countries such as China this year taking three pavillions, with new pavillions also from Spain and Western Australia, as well as others from countries who have previously participated such as the United States, Norway, Germany, France, Canada, Italy, Denmark, Belgium and Northern Australia. International delegations are also lined up to visit the show from important international markets including Brazil, Russia, North and West Africa, and the Middle East.
Aberdeen-based SMEs expand presence at OE
“We have made tremendous efforts to offer opportunities to local companies and expertise, with a new hall added to the site for which priority was given to Aberdeen-based SMEs (Small and Medium-Sized companies),” she said.
Other healthy indicators for OE 2009 include a total of 581 individual stands booked so far (50 more than in 2007), which should equate to more than 1,500 participating companies, with more than 120 companies (20%) having increased the size of their stands from the last show. This encouraging support shows the continued importance that industry events such as OE play in generating new leads and business for its participants, especially in difficult economic climates such as those being experienced presently.
Other innovative developments at SPE Offshore Europe will include a new feature entitled the ‘People Zone’, which will focus on areas such as training, career development and travel. The zone is already sold out. Another is the further development of the show’s final day, traditionally known as Education Day, where engineers of the future from across Aberdeenshire are encouraged to come learn more about the energy industry and the opportunities it holds for them. ‘Energize Your Future at OE’ is being run in association with OPITO, the UK oil and gas industry skills academy.
The theme of the top-level conference at this year’s event is ‘Energy At A Crossroads: Making Choices’, a highly-relevant choice as the offshore industry along with many others now finds itself in a situation where very important choices need to be made to ensure long-term success. There are four main sub-themes, focusing on climate and energy, industry operating models, breakthrough technologies, and people issues.
SPE Offshore Europe delivers debate, learning, innovation and solutions, providing its industry with an ideal platform for professionals to meet, discuss and view at first hand the latest technology and solutions available. The conference and exhibition is organised by The Offshore Europe Partnership Ltd., a joint venture between Reed Exhibitions Ltd. and the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).
