Breakfast host: Oil and Gas UK - Hydrocarbon Releases
Speakers: Brian Kraus, ERM
Eric Sirgo, Chevron North Sea
Steve Walker, Health & Safety Executive
Topic: Leadership Challenges in Tackling Hydrocarbon Releases

The need for performance improvement for health, safety and environment issues has long been at the forefront of minds across the oil and gas industry. The last 18 months have seen an increased focus on these areas as companies react to the aftermath of the Gulf of Mexico incident. Yet many well intentioned activities have yielded too little return in terms of performance improvement.

In addition, the Step Change in Safety-initiated agreement to cut the number of hydrocarbon releases by 50% over three years has meant that industry leaders are collectively re-evaluating how they can go about delivering sustained improvement in safety performance.

Improving environmental and health and safety performance remains a challenge for companies the world over and success requires deep engagement of operational leaders across organisations.

The benefits of getting it right are considerable. It is essential that forward-thinking leaders respond to these developments which simultaneously threaten the sustainability of their businesses whilst offering tremendous opportunities for competitive advantage. Dynamic operating environments, such as the United Kingdom Continental Shelf, create great opportunities – but only for those who both understand and respond decisively to the changes.

Delegates at this breakfast event will hear from Brian Kraus, ERM’s managing partner for global performance and assurance practice. He will speak about the challenges faced by organisational leaders of sustaining improved safety performance and outline the actions that they must take to achieve and sustain that improvement.

Eric Sirgo, general manager of operations at Chevron Upstream Europe will discuss what leaders can do to improve their safety performance and reduce their number of hydrocarbon release occurrences. He will also explain how leaders can play their role in supporting the Step Change initiative to reduce the number of releases by 50% by 2012.

Those attending will also have the opportunity to question the speakers; Steve Walker, Head of Offshore Division at the Health & Safety Executive, who will join the panel.

Topic: Deep Water Offshore Project

This speech will present a new way to design and implement Petrobras mega E&P projects. It will be highlighting the opportunities for suppliers, service and engineering companies who are already installed in the Brazilian market, as well as for newcomers. The main challenges regarding technological and commercial aspects will be addressed.

Speaker: Tuerte Amaral Rolim, Executive Manager, Petrobras

Tuerte Amaral Rolim

Tuerte Rolim is a Eletronic and Equipment Engineer from Universidade Federal da Paraíba who joined Petrobras in 1985 and has a MBA in Advanced Business Management from UFRJ/COPPEAD in Rio de Janeiro and a MBA in Enterprise Management. He has worked in several activities related to project coordination, automation, flow assurance, topsides processing and operational practices in oil and gas facilities covering onshore and offshore Petrobras fields in Brazil. In headquarter he was General Manager for Production Process Technology until April 2010.

Since May 2010 he has been appointed to be the Executive Manager for conception and implementation of Production Development Projects, the most recent structure in Petrobras domestic E&P Bussiness Area, responsible for the main development projects in Pos-Salt and Pre-Salt concessions.
