SAS and Spitfire in sandwich skirmish
Dropping by the IESTA stand at Offshore Europe this year could involve taking a calculated risk.
Former SAS man Andrew Kain is appearing as part of the prime line-up at lunchtimes at stand 1D80 and terror is top of the agenda as he talks about his work with his company AKE Ltd.
Although now the head of a leading specialist risk mitigation company, Andrew previously took part in the classic Special Forces Raid on Pebble Island during the Falklands campaign. After leaving the forces, he designed and delivered the first commercial safety course in 1993 to prepare journalists for operating in war zones.
AKE Ltd is now involved in enabling clients to operate more effectively in hostile environments, and has pioneered new approaches to the successful management and resolution of crises such as kidnapping.
Proving that it is who dares wins, is drilling expert and part-time pilot Iain Hutchison.
He intends to fly a Spitfire over the event ground but will have his feet firmly on the ground at the IESTA stand, and will indeed be looking far beneath.
He will be explaining the story behind drilling engineering consultancy Merlin ERD’s success in extended reach drilling and how they manage to exploit reserves which were previously judged inaccessible.
Adding the glamour and IT technical know-how to proceedings is Cerri McDonald from Solutions who is training her sights on how you can simplify and streamline your organisation’s IT systems.
The informal presentations are spread over the three days of the conference and involve a light lunch, interesting chat and hopefully no NATO intervention.
